REVIEW: HP dm3z Laptop PART 2
This is part two of the review. Part one is here: www.youtube.com www.digitalhomethoughts.com Want to buy a dm3? http [Affiliate] This is my review video of the HP dm3; the dm3 is a new laptop from HP that’s an evolution of the dv2 – it’s thin, light, and not very expensive. It uses the AMD Athlon Neo X2 dual-core processor, a semi-low power processor that uses 18 watts of power, but delivers better performance than the Intel Atom processors found in netbooks. This particular model has 4 GB of RAM, uses a 320 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, has a memory card reader, ethernet, 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, four USB ports, and HDMI out. The 13.3 inch wide-screen display is 1366 x 768 pixels in resolution (driven by an ATI Radeon 3200 GPU), and it has a built-in Webcam and microphone. The keyboard is full-sized, and the laptop features Altec Lansing speakers. The 6-cell battery is rated for up to six hours of battery life. Please rate, subscribe, and comment. Thanks! The fan problem made me not buy this laptop, biggest turnoff for me.

do you need a better graphic card or a better processor to get games playing smoother?
ThoughtsMedia on April 30, 2010 at 5:06 pm
@fighton3 It’s more about the graphics card than anything else when it comes to gaming.

@EddieLolz3r Yeah, HP doesn’t really seem to grasp the whole “make the computer quiet” thing. :-(

Can you change the settings so that the touchpad is turned off and you just press the button? My dell touch pad is horrible.

@ThoughtsMedia Weird my HP laptop is quiet.

ThoughtsMedia on June 7, 2010 at 10:27 pm
@keyzin You can’t overclock this laptop; rare is the laptop that can be overclocked…

@ocielini I don’t know – this was a loaner laptop from HP PR, so I don’t have it for testing.

Turn off 2x AA, Shadows, Spectacular Map and the other stuff.
It (CoD4) will be fine. AA is where the HD3200 is taxed the most.
ThoughtsMedia on June 9, 2010 at 12:46 am
@ivr56 What’s the point of playing a game without AA turned on? Games look like jagged crap with AA turned off, so if the GPU can’t handle the game you’re wanting to play, you’re better off with a different computer.

@ThoughtsMedia
Yes, they have released a BIOS update that fixes most of the touchpad issue.

@ThoughtsMedia Well… there IS always software based overclocking. Although in a 13″ thin notebook format…
ThoughtsMedia on June 9, 2010 at 5:54 pm
@CiTRxJ That’s true…I never think of software-based overclocking because it doesn’t seem very reliable to me, but I guess for some people, it might be good enough.

@ocielini yes you can! you need to flash your BIOS (update). Instructions and file can be found on hp site under deivers and support section, just type in your dm3-xxxx model name
RyanCollins777 on June 10, 2010 at 7:16 pm
your review is good.
But i got board when you started talking about the pictures.
CiTRxJ on June 12, 2010 at 8:19 am
Hey, I know its been a while since you got yours but I was wondering if you remember if the speakers had any centering issues? I just got my dm3z and I noticed that the sound is towards the left. Now, if I use software balance to move all sound to the right, I find that it is coming from the center- meaning the right speaker is in the center of the laptop.
Does this seem familiar?
ThoughtsMedia on June 14, 2010 at 8:32 pm
@CiTRxJ No, I don’t recall that issue, but I really didn’t spend much time testing the audio/speakers on the laptop.

Great Review….I totally agree with you about the “Mulit touch”. I thought it was something i was doing wrong until now. Also , I am a Gamer and can play most Games if i drop the quality of the graphics. Not every game is a problem but it seems most of the games that are made for consoles, this lap top has trouble running. Otherwise , this is a great lap top for under $ 700.00. You can really do a lot with it.

im kinda thinking of getting this im 13 and im thinking of getting it for Christmas.i am not a gamer i use comps for facebook and myspace and youtube. would u recommend this to a young teenager?
right now i have a 15 inch acer and it sucks ass and it gets really hot at the bottom because of the fans.
does this one over heat at the bottom? please reply!
ps.. i love your review when i need help on a computer review i would watch you.
ThoughtsMedia on July 6, 2010 at 5:05 pm
@Girisgreencrazeiful Sure, I think it would be a good laptop for you – I didn’t notice any heat problems on the bottom, but the thinner the laptop is, the harder it is for heat to dissipate, so the bottom of many laptops will get warm…it really depends on the type of CPU in the unit since they kick out the most heat.

@Girisgreencrazeiful Oh, I forgot to mention that one of the best laptop accessories you can get it is a laptop rest for your legs – look up “lapdesk” and you’ll find a few options.
