Question about my DVD video recorder…?
I’ve had a Hi-Fi VCR and DVD Video Recorder for over a year now and it’s been great with recording my favorite shows. Just recently I upgraded my cable. I now have a DCT2500 Digital Cable Receiver that is connected to my TV and DVD Video Recorder. The problem with this however is that now I am unable to record anything on my DVD player, because of the new cable device. Whenever I wanted to record anything on my DVD player, I would have to have my TV on channel 3 and change the DVD player to the DVD setting. Now, because I have the new cable, I always have to turn the new cable receiver on to watch TV, I can never just turn the TV on, or I get a blank screen. Because I have to turn the cable receiver on, I can’t switch my DVD player to the DVD setting anymore, it’s just a blank screen, and I have not been able to record anything on my DVD player since i got the new cable. Sorry if this is comfusing, but if anyone knows how I can record on my dvd player again i would be very greatful!

Sounds like when they put the cable in, they connected the decoder’s output to the DVD recorder’s AV1 input.
- If your DVD recorder only has one AV input, you’re kinda stuck.
- If your DVD recorder has at least 2 AV inputs(AV1 and AV2), then you can put your HiFi VCR into AV2.
You still have to have the DVD recorder on to pass the signals.
The "Normal" method for installing a Sky/Cable decoder is:
- Decoder output 1 goes to AV1 on your TV set
- Decoder output 2 goes to the DVD recorder AV1 input
- HiFi VCR output goes to DVD recorder AV2 input
This allows the DVD recorder to record anything from either the decoder OR the VCR(provided the tape is not copy protected).
You normally select AV1 on the TV SET to watch ANYTHING from the DECODER, DVD RECORDER or VCR.
You then just press the normal TV channel buttons to select another TV station to watch – assuming you have free-to-air terrestrial TV service installed too(aerial on the roof)
You say that "Whenever I wanted to record anything on my DVD player, I would have to have my TV on channel 3 and change the DVD player to the DVD setting."
It is VERY hard to tell you what to do, without actually seeing how things are connected up, however, it sounds to me like you had your DVD recorder/VCR setup coming through on Channel-3 on your TV SET’s RF input(the aerial socket).
This would mean that you put your TV on channel-3, then select the channel you want to record on the DVD Recorder, and press [REC].
I would suggest at this point, that you contact a tech who can come to your house/apt, and sort it out for you.
As I said: Very hard to do here with no pictures and not being able to see exactly how things are connected together…
