Great.. I think it makes sampling much easier.

You should really have headphones.

I’m after a keyboard sampler to sample some sounds from my computer so I can go and play it live at venues.
The main function I want is the ‘keyboard mode’ featured at 4:57 so I can load my several samples into a keyboard and play them as if they were new patches.
I want this function but I dont want to spend alot (£200 maximum)
Is there another keyboard out there that does this for half the price of the MS?
Any help would be great.

@Firstu6 this is in no way close to what maschine is…. not sure how your making that comparison. it’s much more in line to an old sampler like the asr (though still not the same as the asr is much more of a full fledged workstation.)

Is it at all possible to mute paticular loops and such? parhaps with a midi extension\?

id still like to see one of these bad boys in a full size board like the older emulators and emax boards… id pay the extra for full size keys…

Many thanks for this thorough review – I especially appreciate discussion of the downside. I may run right out and get one, but it’s good to know ahead of purchase what compromises are involved.

Hey can anyone help me out here? Im relatively new to the sampling/DJ world. I need an opinion which sampler would be best and if there is any difference between the two and what they may be. The two im looking at seem very different but I don’t know which is best. First is the Korg MicroSampler and second is the Roland SP-404sx. Thanks everyone

@ZKLKZK It depends on your pref. The 404 has a traditional interface-pressure sensitive keys. If you are a more percussive player, the 404 might be better, but the microsampler would be good if you like the feel of a keyboard. People have been using midi keyboards as sample triggers for years now, and it seems like korg sort of reverse engineered a hardware sampler with that in mind. Either way it sounds like a new idea worth checking out. I want one.

Can you pitch down/up samples on a key to key basis, as in a minor 7th chord sample assigned to the C key, and the same sample pithed up a 3rd, assigned to D?

so is this just midi controller? or ca i load sound onto it and use it without my pc being on.

Take a look at my videos of this beast in use.
I’ll be posting more MS-1 videos soon.
amstaff007 on June 14, 2010 at 8:30 pm
is there any software which allows me to do similar things with midi keyboard? Thanks
MarctheDarc on June 16, 2010 at 12:35 pm
If you’re taking requests, i would very much like a video comparing this with other “cheap” portable hardware samplers, like the Roland SP-404SX, Akai MPC500 etc.
Main points being:
Overall user-friendliness.
On-the-fly sampling options/ease.
Editing ease/options.
Memory size/options.
Setup integration.
Live usage.
Thanks for loads of great vids!

say i hear a sample from a song i like
can i put that sample onto the micro sampler?
tngregory on June 27, 2010 at 7:47 am
can the sequencer’s click track be routed to a headphone output rather than the mains? i’m curious if i can build sequences live onstage without the audience hearing the click.

if you hook up a roland sp-555 to a midi keyboard can you play the samples on the keys and have them be different keys like the microsampler? thats the only reason i want the keyboard is that feature, its like the casio but doesnt change the pitch+tempo automatically, and its awsome
techstyle123 on July 13, 2010 at 7:48 pm
good machine but too small

@TheCountaaron You can set the “original BPM” for each sample in the editor software also. That can give you interesting results.

Would this be valuable for using as a main source of drum beats, that were created with ableton, for live performances?

Once again, excellent review!
