GGS LCD Screen Protector – Canon 50D
Jul 14, 2010 in
Canon
This video shows the steps for installing a GGS brand LCD screen protector for digital cameras. My camera is a Canon 50D. It’s a glass cover designed to keep your LCD screen free from scratches. You’ll also see a before/after comparison on the Canon 50D. The video (and some audio) was shot using a Canon Digital Rebel T1i (500D). The poor-sounding audio was dubbed from a low quality PC mic (sorry!) Check www.nodnarb.net for the full review.

Hey, there. Thanks for the video, it was awesome. I have a question; If your camera already has a scratch on the screen, can you remove it by some sort of stuffs ?.
nodnarb501 on August 8, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Not that I know of. There’s a lot of stuff advertised claiming to be able to do it, but I’ve never used any of those myself. If the scratch is big, you may need to send in your camera.

why doesn’t it come with a top LCD protector like D300 models?

I don’t know why, but my guess would be to cut costs. Canon doesn’t even give you lens hoods unless you buy their top of the line lenses.

i received my 50d yesterday and have also been given this protector as a free gift for buying the camera, looks pretty cool and great to see a vid tutorial on this, makes it easier to see someone else do it first

Brandon the Canon replacement cover for the 50D is $11.62. Why bother to put a cover on this cover?

Can you post where you found that? I haven’t had a lot of luck finding good parts.
I think one reason could be the time and complexity required to replace it. I don’t know how easy or hard it is to do, but a lot of people would be put off by disassembling their camera, especially if it’s still under warranty.

two questions:
1. how easy is it to remove the screen protector? cause i assume at some point the protector is going to be scratched and you would want to replace that?
2. why would you choose GGS protector over the flexible plastic ones sold on ebay?
nodnarb501 on May 8, 2010 at 3:58 pm
@jovianksc :
1) I haven’t tried to remove my screen protector yet, so I can’t tell you for sure. The directions say to use something thin, such as a credit card, to separate it along the edges. I’ve had it on almost a year now and it’s remained relatively scratch free. It has done it’s job well. 2) I chose it because I’m more concerned about damage to the LCD from impact than small scratches from normal use. I don’t think the clear plastic ones would protect from any sort of impact.

how easy and simple is it to remove the cover? i’m worried that the adhesive may damage the original lcd
nodnarb501 on June 1, 2010 at 7:15 am
@drseang : I haven’t had to remove mine yet, so I can’t tell you for sure. The instructions say to use a non-sharp thin material (a credit card, for instance) to pry the protector from the LCD. It doesn’t seem like removing it would be too difficult.

I just bought one of these for my new Canon 50D after watching this video thinking it would be easy to put on. Well it’s not as easy as it looked in the video, but after 5 attempts, I finally got it set on straight.
It’s really hard to tell if the protector is aligned with the LCD display because both are black when you go to put it on, even when you have an image showing on LCD.
I’m am pleased with it’s look now that’s it on and hope it does the job if I ever have an accident with my camera

Nice vid for who didnt know how it works. Thx Sir
schmagoogly on July 7, 2010 at 5:04 pm
Is the screen protector flushed with the body of the camera or does it protrude a little bit?
siliconsurf on July 9, 2010 at 2:18 pm
anybody know where i can get a lcd thing for viewing it outside when it’s really bright?
nodnarb501 on July 10, 2010 at 5:43 am
@siliconsurf Search Google for Hoodman Loupe. I have one and it works great. You can get it just about anywhere…Amazon, BHPhotoVideo, etc.
nodnarb501 on July 10, 2010 at 5:44 am
@schmagoogly It’s a thin layer of glass, so maybe a millimeter or two. You won’t notice the difference.
