Convincing the Boss to Cough Up for Anti-Spam Software
Ah, there’s nothing like starting the day with a steaming cup of coffee, a chocolate doughnut… and a stinking mountain of spam.
It seems like your company’s anti spam filter lets almost all your daily spam right through. They may as well send an invitation. And so instead of enjoying your breakfast while reading up on the latest antics of Paris Hilton and the Middle East, you get to filter your emails, instead. Going through what feels like a billion spam emails to fish out anything that’s real work… what fun.
By the time you’re finished, your chocolate doughnut has gone unsavored and you’re left wondering if all those “Miracle Diet Pill!” emails are trying to tell you something about the affect your daily doughnut is having on your body.
Sorting through mountains of spam eats up time that could be better spent screwing off at work– or, hey, even working. And while your company probably has a spam filter in place, unless they really work at keeping their software updated you’re going to be bombarded with spam. After all, just because spammers are the scum of the earth doesn’t mean they’re stupid… they know their way around sub-par anti spam software.
Chances are, your manager doesn’t realize that your current software is outdated– he never checks his emails, anyway. But he does care that your time is being wasted with spam when you could be getting some work done. Want to make your boss sit up and take notice of the problem? Give him a poetic sampling of what you deal with each day.
Thousands of customers, meds online
Improved performance, for yours and mine
Oh, the temptation
And stubborn persuasion
Fine watches, all for cheap
Discounts on brands, no price too steep
All that distraction
For just a fraction
Here’s the best deal we’ll ever make
Improved performance for me, better results for you - have and eat that cake!
I swear it’s no scam
JUST GET RID OF ALL THAT SPAM!
Your boss may ask you where you found the time to write up stupid poems about spam when you should be working– just tell him you cribbed it from Shakespeare. He won’t know.
Did you put your heart and soul into your “Spam Hurts” poem, but feel like it got you nowhere? Give the boss a real taste of how much spam eats up your time by forwarding him all of your spam messages. Sure, you’ll look like sort of a jerk, but… it’ll probably work.
If it doesn’t, you may want to think about taking your boss out to that famous Monty Python restaurant offering “Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Baked Beans, and Spam” to accentuate your point.
All jokes aside, dealing with heaps of spam is counterproductive– and that’s not something your boss wants. With all the cutting edge anti-spam software available, there’s no reason for you to spend your busy days sifting through spam– a good spam filter deals with it for you. And if getting more work out of you doesn’t convince your boss to opt for better spam software… well, nothing will. If that happens, take a few extra minutes in the morning to enjoy your doughnut and your daily Paris Hilton gossip, guilt free. Your boss deserves unproductive employees.

A Recipe for Prize-Winning Email Spam
This articles explains how spammers cook up a spam message. This includes all the ingredients and directions on how they cook the ultimate spam delicacy!
Ingredients:
A complete and total lack of ethics
A good-sized serving of greed
One bushel of unnecessary products
One large cup of business ruthlessness
A dash of familiarity with spam filters
Several packages of innocent victims
Cooking Instructions:
The most important step in preparing the perfect spam is sanitization. Be sure to scrub all traces of decency and ethical behavior from yourself before attempting this recipe, as any leftover honesty or integrity will result in sub-par spam.
To start, gently fold together the large cup of business ruthlessness and your generous serving of greed. ‘Financial Gain’ brand greed is best in this recipe, though other brands of greed may be used, such as ‘Greed for Power.’
Add your bushel of unnecessary or nonexistent products. There are several tasty version of this recipe, and here’s where you can choose which flavor you like best; choose from poor-quality drugs, get rich quick schemes, work from home scams, and male augmentation. All are equally tasty.
Blend carefully.
Once your spam message is well mixed, spoon it into an Anti Spam Filter (ASF) Rewriter. Let cool. Scrape off all grease and nastiness, and set aside– spammers will want reserve this ingredient for use on a website.
Once spun and blended, scoop your message into a prepared blank email. Then sprinkle email addresses from your packet of innocent victims into email. Send.
Congratulations! You’ve created the perfect spam. Now after a quick cleaning to wipe up any spilled ingredients (you’ll want to wear gloves for this– it’s nasty stuff), you just sit back and wait for your customers to come.
Serving Suggestions:
This recipe makes enough for millions of servings. And while it’s important to have a highly useless product, presentation affects this recipe, as well. When presenting your newly-cooked spam, keep in mind your serving options:
Shouting: Want your well-cooked spam to get noticed? Use all caps and plenty of exclamation marks!
Best Buddy: Shouting seem like ‘too much’ for this batch of spam? Try being the recipient’s best buddy instead. ‘Saw this and thought of you,’ and ‘Can you believe what he did?’ are nice options. Want to make your dish extra special? Toss in ‘re:’ to make it appear a replied-to message. Creative genius!
Surprise Them: Don’t be boring– surprise all recipients with your specially prepared spam. Find people who didn’t sign up for and don’t want your products. Great addresses are available online or for purchase.
Fix What’s Not Wrong: Worried that recipients don’t need some of the great ingredients in your special Spam? Don’t! Instead, create a need by implying they have problems they don’t have– then offer them crappy drugs, scammy get rich quick programs, etc., to fix their new problem.
Tips for Recipients:
Had more than your fill of tasty spam and starting to feel a little ill? Here are some tips to help soothe your stomach:
- Check the privacy policies of all companies you submit an email address to.
- Never reply to spam, never click on a link in a spam message, even to unsubscribe. This shows spammers that yours is a valid email, and they will surely hit it again.
- Never give your email address anywhere online. If you have to, spell it out.
- Get a good anti-spam email filter. If your email service providers doesn’t offer one (most do) find one elsewhere.

Backscatter (NDR) Spam - Protect Yourself
With every advancement in anti spam software, the spammers become more desperate and more inventive. They have even discovered how to take advantage of standard operations of most e-mail servers.
It’s called NDR (Non Delivery Receipt) Spam or backscatter. Have you ever received a message in your inbox saying that something you sent was undeliverable or bounced? Spammers are now using this courtesy response to get their information in your inbox. They send e-mails to addresses that do not exist, and say that it is from you. Or they use your e-mail address as the sender for their entire, enormous mailing list. Then when any messages bounce back they are sent to your e-mail address. This is possible simply because email servers cannot authenticate that the person sending the message is in fact the owner of the address being used.
How would a spammer get these e-mail addresses? It is not unusual for a company or person to post a contact e-mail address on a company or personal website. Spammers can collect these, and use them as their own address for their enormous mailing lists, thereby eliminating the need them to deal with the inevitable ‘Return To Sender’ NDR e-mails.
This type of spam can be quite dangerous. Because technically the message is coming from the reader’s own mail server, the chances of them opening it, and anything that might be attached, is much higher then with your typical spam. And for the exact same reasons it is considered much more insidious as well because it’s much harder for a spam blocker to filter out. The most likely outcome of NDR spam is that a single domain will be spoofed as the sender of a spam message, and then be inundated by NDR messages from the long list that the message was sent to, overwhelming a company’s exchange server. At its simplest it can overwhelm an exchange server, and force a user to waste time sorting through their inbox.
Little can be done by an individual to eliminate this type of spam, but an internal IT manager can turn off the option to have NDR messages produced at the mail sever. Spam filters can also be put in place to delete any messages that contain frequently used spam content, or subject-line only messages with no content. This can make it a little more difficult for users to send and receive their e-mail, but if they are made aware of the restrictions necessary to maintain optimum operations, problems can often be avoided.
In general this type of spam causes a significant nuisance to users and system administrators, but as with other types of spam, the technology is even now being developed and implemented to put another road block in the way of backscatter.

Does a Microsoft Registry Cleaner Remove Spyware and Malware?
It’s just about impossible to expect consistent performance from your PC without cleaning the register regularly. As time goes on, a Microsoft Registry tends to become built up with entries, which are no longer valid. The only thing you can do to avoid this problem is to use a registry scanner regularly.
A good registry scanner will scan and find any invalid entries in the registry. These types of entries are also known as registry corruption. After finding corruption, the scanner will then clean or repair this corruption. If steps are not taken to clean registry corruption you will end up with a computer that is slow, maybe very slow and prone to errors and crashing.
A Different Problem: Spyware and Malware
At first, having spyware on your computer can make it act similarly to the way registry corruption will make a computer behave. In its earliest and most innocuous stages, spyware simply steals resources from the computer. This stealing of resources will make the computer perform more slowly. Obviously, if a small amount of spyware will slow down the computer a little, a lot of spyware will slow down the computer a lot.
To complicate things, there is a lot more to the story of spyware and malware. Spyware is one form of malware. Malware can be very harmful to your computer, but what’s worse it can actually be harmful to your personal life! There are forms of spyware and malware that simply take note of what sites you’ve been to and use this information to aid companies in their sales projects.
Other forms of spyware and malware can get deeply into your Web surfing habits. They can steal your personal passwords, Social Security number, credit card numbers and even banking information. Needless to say, this type of information the in hands of thieves could do a lot to make financial gains for them while leaving you bankrupt.
Registry Cleaning Vs. Spyware Cleaning
Using a registry cleaner will certainly put your computer’s registry back in top condition. This is important because you can’t get good service from your computer if it has a corrupt registry. A registry cleaner, however, doesn’t clean spyware, malware, adware and other types of parasites. To do this a spyware cleaner is needed.
In much the same way a registry scanner works, a spyware scanner will scan a computer’s hard drive and find parasites. Hopefully, the scanner will be able to eliminate any of those it finds from your computer, but it will not do anything to repair registry corruption.
This means to keep your computer operating in good health, you need both a registry cleaner and a spyware cleaner.
One Package, Or Two Separate Programs?
There are companies who sell packages that include both, but still the spyware cleaner and registry cleaner are two separate programs. So, it is just as easy and just as wise to buy a separate spyware cleaner and registry cleaner program. For one thing, by doing it this way you’ll be able to get the best of each program.
After you have these two programs installed on your computer, the general rule is to use the spyware cleaner twice a week and the registry cleaner about once a month. If however, your spyware cleaner found and removed malicious spyware from your PC on one of its routine spyware scans, you should clean the registry shortly after. This is because spyware, even after it has been removed, will leave false entries in the registry.
In the final conclusion, registry cleaners and spyware cleaners have very important roles in keeping your computer in top condition. However, one is not capable of doing the other’s job. It is also important to remember a good spyware cleaner has the additional responsibility of keeping your personal information out of the hands of devious on-line stalkers.

Spyware Virus Remover - What Is The Best One?
The computer has become a very important entity. It works to help make things easier and more convenient for us.
In order for the computer to maximize its full potential and have better longevity, it needs to be checked on a regular basis. Proper care of your computer includes constantly searching its system for possible threats, which includes viruses.
One type of virus that poses danger to you and your computer is spyware. Spyware is a software that works mainly to invade your privacy. It is said to have been created primarily for espionage purposes, hence the name. Spyware is installed stealthily, usually by simply visiting websites or clicking on links that are infected with the virus. What happens when spyware thrives on your system is that it takes in as much information as it can about you and your internet habits, such as the websites you frequent, your usernames and passwords, and even your credit card details. Worse, it passes on the information it has gathered to a third party without your consent.
Spyware also works in ways that are far more than simple monitoring. This type of software has the ability to install other software, redirect activity on the web browser, enter websites that contain more viruses, change computer settings, and other harmful tasks that interfere with user control. This information should be enough to convince you that spyware is a real threat, and you should look for spyware virus remover now (a few minutes later might just be too late).
The emergence of spyware has caused quite an alarm in the computer world, for privacy is certainly something most people hold dear, even with the advent of blogging and social networking. To answer this growing threat to people’s privacy and provide spyware virus remover, there are many companies that now offer anti-spyware services. Indeed, there are many utilities or tools available in the market today that function as spyware virus remover. These utilities or tools abound in cyberspace and can even be readily downloaded for free.
However, you should exercise caution in choosing the programs that really work. It is highly recommended that you ask the opinion of experts so you can make an informed decision as regards the best spyware virus remover to use. It is also recommended that you buy the original software outside of cyberspace, so you can be sure to upload a risk-free application on your computer.
Its common prescription includes Ad-Aware SE 6 Personal, Spyware Doctor, and Spybot - Search and Destroy. Some sites also recommend Spy Subtract PRO, Alluria’s Spyware Eliminator, and AntiSpy. Each of these programs should work well as spyware virus remover and take care of Spyware’s normal symptoms include slow internet connection and pop-ups that frequent your screen. You can compare the effectiveness of these programs by asking around; there are many sites dedicated to finding out which application best work as spyware virus remover, and users and developers alike provide insightful evaluation you can rely on.

Prevent Malware with User Account Control
User Account Control (UAC) was introduced in Windows Vista as way to control administrative access to programs and settings while logged in as an administrator.
Now, that may sound sort of weird if you come from the corporate world of system administration using Windows NT, 2000 or XP. Under these operating systems (nt, 2000, xp) if you were the administrator programs and system settings would launch without impedance and run with administrative privileges.
UAC allows Vista users to operate their PC’s as administrators, however programs and settings requiring administrative permissions must be granted explicit permission from the Vista administrator, these programs no longer launch automatically even though the administrator is logged in.
So, how does the average user allow a program or setting to execute (or run)? Vista uses something called User Interface Privilege Isolation (UIPI) which creates another video layer with a prompt that asks the administrator if it’s ok to run a program or change a setting. Vista decides which processes (applications or settings) are subject to User Interface Privilege Isolation by using something called the Process Integrity Level. The lower a process integrity level of a windows process the more chance it will be subject to UAC with UIPI. Processes with a high integrity level automatically bypass UAC.
When UAC with UIPI was introduced into Vista users were immediately annoyed with “security popups” (the UIPI prompt) asking them if it’s ok to run a program or change a setting. I must admit that UAC is annoying, however it is most definitely necessary. Vista users should always be wary of low integrity processes, and UAC with UIPI allows you to know what’s safe and what isn’t.
UAC can be turned off. I don’t recommend it, however it is possible. To turn off UAC with UIPI follow the steps below:
1. Click the Vista globe at the bottom (formally start button)
2. Click the control panel
3. Click Classic View (off to the top left)
4. Double click on User Accounts
5. Click “Turn User Account Control on or off”
6. Uncheck User Account Control (UAC)
7. Click OK
8. Reboot
9. UAC with UIPI is now turn off
UAC needs one simple improvement to make it completely stellar - stopping the constant prompts! If a process has already been approved to run, why prompt us again? I have a feeling we’ll see this change for UAC in the future. Until then, keep UAC running and it’ll help you keep your PC clean!

Browsing Safely - Guide to Types of Computer Viruses & Malware
Computer security is an essential part of protection for your PC from the dangers lurking on the Internet, in fact, surfing the net without Malware Security is like walking through a hospital without an Immune System.
There are zillions of threats, from minimal nuisances to severe Malware that can completely and permanently disable vital functions to where the entire operating system needs to be reinstalled and all programs and data lost.
What is Malware: Malware is short for malicious code software (mal-ware), which includes any and all forms of code designed with malicious intent. Malware is the umbrella under which all security dangers exist, such as viruses, worms, spyware, phishing, adware, tracking cookies and rootkits.
Viruses: Threat Level - Intermediate to Severe. What is a computer virus? A computer virus is a malicious code that adds itself to other programs that exist on the computer (host), including operating systems. Many computer viruses spread quickly and wreck havoc on the system host, including potential destruction of operating systems and data.
There are different types of viruses and they range from being a nuisance that constantly displays pop-ups to severe dangers that delete system files, attach to registries, destroy the user’s ability to log into the Internet and even destroying the computer’s operating system along with all the data that is on it. Unless you have completely backed-up the data on your PC, recovering that data will be impossible if you have to re-install the operating system after a virus infection.
While there are many different viruses, the Trojan Horse is one of the most severe and all though threat severity levels vary within the different types of Trojans, basically they are all dangerous and should always be protected against. Unfortunately some Trojans infect computers and cause such damage that it becomes irreversible and a reinstall of the entire operating system becomes necessary.
The best protection against computer viruses is prevention, early detection and removal. A good anti-virus or Malware security software can protect your computers and provide peace of mind when surfing the net.
P2P File Sharing and Virus Dangers: One of the easiest ways to get a virus is by downloading unsafe freeware, shareware or person 2 person (P2P) from file sharing sites. Specifically those sites that provide P2P free music downloads. Some of these sites are Limewire, Bearshare and Morpheus. Users create a free account on these sites, download the software (which is sometimes full of Spyware/Adware on its own) and get access to millions of other peoples files through what is called the Gnutella Network. Users can search for MP3 music files and download them from other people’s computers through this Network.
First, this is illegal, but that’s a whole other topic. With these types of downloads there is no way of knowing what is actually on these files and it is easy to download a serious viruses and especially a Trojan. These P2P sites should be avoided to ensure computer security. For a few bucks you can get legal and safe music downloads at sites like Napster and Rhapsody. Play it safe, paying the few bucks is well worth it, as it can save lots of money, not to mention the hassle of having to fix a damaged computer.
Worms: Threat Level - Severe. A computer Worm is a a type of especially nasty Malware that is a self-replicating computer program, which at one point almost brought the entire Internet to its knees. Unlike a virus, it doesn’t attach itself to an existing program and does not infect computer files, instead it wrecks havoc on systems as it creates endless copies of itself, with the goal of taking up as much space as possible on the PC and creating program problems.
Worms almost always cause harm to the network, if only by consuming bandwidth, whereas viruses almost always corrupt or modify files on a targeted computer. Internet worms are most prevalent today in the form of email attachments. Two of the worst worms ever were Mydoom and Morris.
Worms are usually sent via email by attachments, you should never open an attachment in your email from an unknown source. Also, when deciding on an anti virus security program it is important to make sure that the email scanner is activated and that the software covers protection, detection and removal features for worms.
Spyware: Threat Level - Low to Severe. Spyware is one of the most common types of Malware and often slows computer performance. Spyware spies on your web browsing activities and comes in forms of keyloggers (where your keystrokes are monitored), recording/sending your web browsing habits to a third party, causing unwanted pop-up adds, hijacking home/search pages and making changes to them, as well as, redirecting browsing results.
A Spyware infection can be caught in several ways. One way is by clicking on a bad link from a bad site. Two, through small windows of advertising that pop up during web browsing (pop-ups). Third, there is what is called a drive-by type download and that is where Spyware infects computers without the user noticing, just by visiting a bad web page. Tip: All web browsers allow you to check a “block pop-ups” selection which can be accessed from the browser toolbar under options.
Adware: Threat Level: Low to Intermediate. Adware is Advertising Display Software that delivers ads in a manner or context that is unexpected, unsolicited and automatically loaded. Many adware applications also perform tracking functions, and therefore may also be categorized as Tracking Technologies. Adware causes pop-up windows with advertisements in the browser based on the information it collects from the user’s browsing patterns. Sometimes adware may be installed in conjunction with a companion Spyware program.
Phishing: Threat Level - Severe. Phishing is a form of Internet fraud that aims at identity theft. It’s purpose is to steal valuable information such as credit cards, social security numbers, user IDs and passwords.
A phishing site is a duplicate of a legitimate site and it is created to dupe users into logging in and therefore stealing private information. Many phishing scams are perpetrated via mass emails which alert the customer to some problem with your customer account or some other hook, usually from a bank, or Paypal or some other institution and it lures people into entering their private data by following a link to the phishing site of a real site.
The recent IRS rebates spawned a phishing scam, where mass emails were sent with IRS logos informing taxpayers that they are due a rebate check but they must first follow the IRS link and input their information to receive the rebate. The link, of course, leads to a phishing site where unsuspecting people enter personal information, like social security numbers which are then hijacked by identity thieves.
It is important to realize that most reputable companies do not usually send emails soliciting private data. In fact, Paypal explicitly lets its users know that they never solicit customers via email in any way. The IRS has a fraud alert on their homepage advising taxpayers of such phishing scams. If you get emails like this just hit the SPAM button and run for your life or at the very least check with the institution that sent the email in some other way.
There is also the danger of running into a phishing site while web browsing, it is important to have computer security software that will alert to phishing sites with real-time protection.
Phishing security is NOT standard on all anti virus software and Malware removal programs. When considering a security program make sure to look for phishing protection.
Drive-By Downloads: Threat Level - Low to Severe
Drive-By download is where all types of Malware can infect your computer via a visit to a web page. The Malware codes are embedded in these bad sites and looks for users computers to become hosts to attach itself to. It is important to look for drive-by or real time protection when considering security software. Drive-by or real time protection should be included on the anti virus software that is on the computer.
Rootkits: Threat Level - Severe. Rootkits are really bad because they can hide their existence from operating systems and users and cause major destruction. Because Rootkits create stealth program codes that run at a lower level than can be detected with all normal anti virus software and Malware removal programs, it is crucial to make sure that the security software explicitly protects against rootkits.
Cookies: Threat Level - Low. Some cookies are positive and really do not harm to your system in anyway, they simply temporarily store your log-in information so that you do not have to enter it again when you return to that site. Plus, many sites will not run properly without cookies enabled and so they are a necessary element. And these temporary cookies can be cleared from within your browser at any time you.
On the other hand Tracking Cookies are a form of Tracking Technology. Tracking Cookies are used to track the surfing habits of users in order to manage, analyze advertising data, and they may be used with the more malicious intent of monitoring user activity more closely. Tracking cookies are usually easily detected and protection from them comes standard on most anti virus and Malware security software.
It can be more difficult to remove Malware if infection occurs than to protect against it and some Malware causes such damage that a complete operating system reinstall is required.
There are many Malware security softwares, including some great free ones, and firewalls, that offer various levels of protection. It is important to have a complete suite that protects from all Malware dangers.

Remove Spyware and Adware Now
With the advancement of technology, we have become more and more dependent on the computer to get through our day-to-day tasks. We use the computer for all sorts of things, from creating complex programs to storing important data. With an internet service, our computer can allow us to do even more things, such as shop online, meet new friends or reconnect with old ones who live far away from us, learn about new stuff by reading free education materials or attending online forums, and promote ourselves through web logs, or blogs as they have been called..
The list is virtually endless. Your computer now functions as a lifeline of sorts.
However, if you are not careful enough, your computer might catch a virus. This can happen in a matter of seconds and through a number of ways. Even such simple tasks as opening a link and visiting a website can immediately get your computer infected with dangerous - and even fatal - viruses, such as spyware and adware. Downloading software is also another easy way to expose your computer to viruses.
Before you panic and close all windows on your screen, read on and find out how you can remove spyware and adware now.
Spyware is essentially a privacy-invasive software. What happens with spyware is that it gathers information about you and your activities in cyberspace. It then passes on this information, which may include your usernames, passwords, and even credit card details, to a complete and utter stranger. Spyware is indeed a real threat.
Adware, on the other hand, is primarily an advertising-supported software that readily displays, plays, or downloads advertising material. It includes any software program that shows advertising banners while the program is running. This is a way for the developer, or advertiser, to get back the cost of his work.
