How to Find Work
Applying for the perfect job and getting turned down can be a real disappointment, but you need to persevere. You cannot control the quality of the other candidates. Also, just speaking to bosses, managing directors and other staff at the company I was temping at gave me the confidence and “can do” attitude in job interviews.

Take a Close Look: Then Work to Change Wrong Views and Actions
Our daily lives are filled with reports of tragedies: Children are abandoned, parents are murdered in senseless crimes, terrible tenement fires kill whole families, and children die of starvation with horrible frequency. People often wonder why these things happen, but they keep happening.
Wouldn’t it be great to find ways to avoid some of these tragedies? That thought first got my attention as a college senior. Shocking assassinations changed the American political scene in 1968 when first Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot and soon after Senator Robert F. Kennedy was also killed. Two great leaders were removed at a time when new trails to social justice and international peace needed to be blazed.
As upsetting as those killings were, I was almost as shocked when my university invited the Shah of Iran to speak at my college commencement exercises where he announced an international peace corps. Even in those days, the Shah was well known for stifling his political and religious opponents, even to the point of spying on dissident students enrolled in American universities. Rougher tactics were employed against opponents in Iran.
Fortunately, my class was also allowed to invite a speaker. We chose Ms. Coretta Scott King, Dr. King’s widow, to address us on Class Day, the first woman ever invited to do so. This was one small step in her achieving more prominence in the non-violent search for civil rights.
Recently reviewing the events of 1968, I was struck by how often the “official” actions support injustice. As a result, it’s good to think carefully about how far we should support “official” positions as opposed to looking independently for the truth and then acting on it.
My thoughts turned to those long ago days while considering the path towards social justice followed by Dr. Hossein Sheykholya, a former Iranian Air Force fighter pilot who later became a political prisoner in Iran. As a child, Dr. Sheykholya lived in a tough, violent working-class neighborhood in Iran. Around him were frequent reminders of the Shah’s social and political repression. At the same time, poor people didn’t get the medical attention they needed . . . despite the country’s great wealth. Great prejudice existed against the poor; favoritism, corruption and crime were among other social ills.
Convinced that the “official” approach was wrong, Dr. Sheykholya became a social activist, a dangerous thing to do in Iran at that time. He also decided to use social science to find the causes of oppression, poverty, prejudice, drug addiction, and other ills. This determination went against the grain of what many believed at the time: these social ills were predetermined by biology or mental illness.
In examining these problems, Dr. Sheykholya learned something else: Prestigious universities often encouraged thinking about these problems that came no closer to finding causes for these afflictions than did believing in the prejudices of the uneducated. As an example, he reminded me of Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, long considered to be one of the world’s leading authorities on how to help poor nations to improve their circumstances through economic policies.
Professor Sachs noted the following reservations about his past advice around the world: “It has taken me 20 years to understand what good development economics should be, and I am still learning.” Clearly, earning a doctorate alone wasn’t enough to equip Dr. Sachs with the best solutions; only getting his hands dirty in country after country provided his real education.
When the time came to earn his own doctorate, Dr. Sheykholya wanted to avoid the pitfall of studying under those who only knew the “official” answers to problems of social justice. Instead, he looked for a university that emphasized building new knowledge through independent study.
He found what he was looking for at Rushmore University (an online school) where all courses are conducted as individual tutorials in which students work one-on-one with a world-class faculty of experienced practitioners and scholars. Students are also permitted to design their own courses, majors, and degrees. Such flexibility provides the opportunity to gain new knowledge from wherever it is needed.
Dr. Sheykholya did exciting work at Rushmore and earned his doctorate from that university, based on much field study of the causes and cures for the social ills he first observed in Iran as a youngster. He now uses his new knowledge to help provide those cures in a country outside of his native homeland.
When asked why he didn’t return to Iran, Dr. Sheykholya observed that the country still suffers from oppression and injustice . . . but from a different “official” source. He observed, “I decided for self exile again. I shall struggle for a free society and an advanced country that will promote freedom, democracy, and social justice in its society.”
Education has value to society as well as to the individual. But no educational method can hope to instill a strong desire to do the right thing in seeking and applying important new knowledge: Universities can only hope to encourage independence of thinking and action that lead to making better decisions.

Green care farming is a fast growing business and the demand after such services has increased over the past five years. Nitrogen and phosphate uptake is poor in iodine-deficient soils. When the soil is acidic or turns alkaline through heavy applications of line, deficiencies of zinc, manganese, boron, iodine and other elements develop because these become less soluble in water. Nitrogen is a crucial plant nutrient but can cause large problems in excessive doses. In the 1970s and 80s the water quality in rivers and lakes started deteriorating.

Production is now concentrated in California and the Carolinas, but after 12 years of research to develop culturing techniques, Kohler and zoologist Robert Sheehan believe the fish is ideal for cultivation in southern Illinois.
Production and cultivation are central in this innovative concept. While some canopy items might simply be collected and harvested, the cultivation of selected species offers the best opportunities for utilisation on a sustainable basis.
Growers often till the land as many as 3-6 times during a growing season to “eradicate” weeds and prevent reseeding before they start farming organically — a “deal with it now and not worry about it in future” approach. This practice results in high levels of soil erosion and subsequent loss of organic matter from the fragile Florida soils. Growing food accounts for only one fifth of this. The other four fifths is used to move, process, package, sell, and store food after it leaves the farm.

Sections To Include In Your Acting Resume
An acting resume is a fairly specialized type of resume. You will not be including your standard work experience or any kind of description of your outlook and career goals. In fact, an acting resume is ‘just the facts’ and must be exactly one side of one page. This is because you will generally staple the resume to the back of your headshots for easy viewing and sorting by casting directors.
So what does go on an acting resume? The first thing to include, which should be the largest type and the most easy to read on the whole page, is your name. Put your name right at the top of the page in clear bold letters, and put your height, weight, hair color, and eye color right under that in smaller type. Do not forget to include your contact information, or you will be surprised to receive very few callbacks and conseuqently very few parts. A full address is generally not necessary but an phone number and an e-mail address most definitely are.
The first section beneath this basic information should be your most important experiences for the parts you are auditioning for. So if you are auditioning for roles in theatre, you will make a section called “Theatrical Experience.” Depending on your specialties you might even want to consider splitting up musical theatre experience from straight theatre experience. If you don’t have any experience, you should go out and get some. Educational institutions are great places to build up some experience, as are community theatres, non-profit theatres, and store-front theatres.
Next you will include the next-most important set of experiences you have. Again, this is all individualized based on the professional acting experience you have so far and the type of experience you are hoping to gain. You might have a section for television acting experience, film acting experience, voice-over work, etc. It probably won’t do you any good to include modeling work on an acting resume, so go ahead and leave that off in most cases. But again, every situation is unique and there are always exceptions; if you are trying out for a role playing a model or a sex-bomb of some sort, you may want to let them know that others have found you attractive. Generally, you head shot will suffice.
Finally, you will include a section with any special skills you have. Things to include in this last part of your resume include dialects you may be proficient at, any type of stage or film technique, and anything else that makes you uniquely qualified to do the type of work that you want to do!

How to Write the Perfect CV
Print your CV on decent paper. Don’t go overboard with watermarked or decorated paper, but don’t print it on scrap paper with failed print-outs on the reverse. This document represents you.
Keep it simple. Employers don’t want to see colourful titles, text or images, the information should be presented as clearly as possible with headers to distinguish the different sections. Think of it as a business document. You don’t want your clients to think you spend all day making colourful titles or adding clip art. Your focus should be on the content itself.
Proof read your CV yourself. Computer spellcheckers are not as good as a brain and a dictionary. Particularly if the job you are applying for requires communication skills, you should ensure your CV is grammatically as good as it can be, as this is the first piece of work your potential employers will be judging you on.

Personal profile
It is a good idea to have some sort of personal profile at the top of your CV. Don’t go into too much depth or explanation but you should summarise your skillset and experience, maybe even with an idea of what you want to do next (make sure it is in line with the job description you are applying for).
Skills, Employment & Education
There’s no mathematical equation to writing the perfect CV. Many people will offer you set ways of doing things but your CV should be uniquely tailored both to you and the job you are applying for. Things which you might include on a CV for certain job applications would be a waste of space on another. The best idea is to read the job description and custom-build your CV to match the specification.
You should include a list of skills you possess, but whether this should be a list of skills with descriptions or a list of jobs or qualifications with a skills breakdown is your choice. Many people format their CVs with Education and Employment sections with descriptions of the different roles, duties, skills and responsibilities held.
Sometimes to list your employment and education is missing out a lot of your more important accomplishments. Let’s say you organised a cake sale for charity, or a school newsletter - Education or Employment? It doesn’t fit into either category neatly but clearly displays you are a motivated and organised person - Sometimes exactly the qualities employers are seeking. Consider an ‘Accomplishments’ or ‘Achievements’ section for any activities you have taken part in which show you in a good light. Remember to relate everything to individual skills; teamwork, organisation, responsibility etc.
Other CVs will have a more general list of skills (Communication, IT, Organisation, Teamwork, Customer service…) with reference to certain jobs, education or experiences contained elsewhere on the CV.
Even if you decide to have a less formal skills list, you should still list all your academic attainment and at least your last 2 years of employment with dates so potential employers can see how you have spent your time. Often graduates who do not find jobs immediately after education can have trouble finding a job because employers can see by their CV that they haven’t worked since they graduated. If you have gaps of months or years on your CV be prepared to be asked about them. You can talk about spending time with family, volunteering for philanthropic causes or helping someone start their own business. Employers expect applicants to be slightly creative with the truth on CVs, but be prepared to be quizzed on your volunteer work or business start-up.
Interests & Hobbies
Many people put a ‘Hobbies’ or ‘Interests’ section toward the end of their CV. This is not the opportunity to tell your employer how much you like to pick your nose or watch television. Employers will either be looking for interests relevant to the job (for example being interested by the media for a PR job) or interests which show you to be a rounded, popular person (meaning you will probably fit in well to the working environment).
References
References are important, but are often excluded from a CV to save space. If you are going to miss out references to make room for your skills, employment and education it is good idea to just write “References available upon request”. Employers will want a reference who has known you in a professional or academic context, preferably someone in a position of power and/or responsibility.
