How To Effectively Dress For Success For A College Scholarship Interview
You are so excited about getting a chance to interview at the college of your choice and probably wondering what to wear. Dressing for success for a college interview is just as important now as it will be when you eventually enter the workplace. You will get only one opportunity to make a first impression on the college recruiter and you want to make sure it is a good one.
You will not want to wear grunge type clothes, mini skirts or any trendy clothing when attending your college interview, particularly if you are interviewing for a college scholarship. The better you dress, the better an impression you will make on whoever interviews you. This is the time in your life when you really want to shine and make sure that you not only wear the appropriate clothes and shoes, but also look your best.
Make sure that you wear clothing that is clean, free from any holes or tears and fits well. You should opt for conservative dress during your college interview. This means that young women are best wearing a skirt, low heels and a blouse and young men are best wearing a dress shirt, dress slacks and a tie. Women should be sure to wear stockings, no matter what the season, and shoes should be conservative dress shoes for both men and women. This means no flip flops, open toed shoes, spike heels, or sneakers. If you do not have a decent pair of dress shoes, make sure you pick some up at some discount shoe outlet prior to the interview.
Your hair should be washed, combed and worn in a flattering yet simple manner. You do not have to have an elaborate hair do, you want to look natural. But nor do you want to go to the interview with spiky hair or corn rows. You want to make sure that you look like the professional you one day hope to become. The college interview is the time to get started by putting your best foot forward.
Many young people today find it fashionable to have their ears pierced many times as well as nose, tongue and other parts of the body. Remove all visible piercings prior to the interview with the exception of young women who have their ears pierced. If you are a young woman who has her ears pierced several times, do yourself a favor and remove all the piercings except for one in each ear. If you have tattoos, cover them up.
Young women should wear conservative makeup. Dark colors are for the evening. Wear light shades of makeup on your eyes, lips and cheeks and try not to overdo it. Also, it is important for both genders not to overdo any spraying of cologne prior to the interview.
If you are a young woman with long, flashy fingernails, you should have them manicured to a professional size prior to the interview. Young men should also be sure to give their nails a once over prior to meeting with the college recruiter and make sure that their fingernails are cleaned. In addition, make sure your hands are not dried and cracked as you will most likely shake the hand of the person with whom you are interviewing. People do notice your hands, so make sure that yours look good.
You have worked hard for the grades you attained and have high hopes of getting accepted into the college of your choice. The clothes you wear to the college interview do not have to be what you will wear every day in college. By dressing appropriately, you are sending a message to the recruiter that you have respect for the college or university. Dressing for success for a college interview can be just as important as your transcripts as you will only get one chance to make a good impression. Make sure that the impression you make is that of a young man or woman who is eager to go to college and someday become a professional person.
